Friday, June 9th at 10:00 AM: REP. COHEN, STATE REP. PEARSON, CIVIL RIGHTS ADVOCATES TO CALL FOR MAJOR JUDICIAL REFORMS TO PROTECT VOTING RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY

MEMPHIS, TN—On Friday, June 9th, at 10:00 am CT, Rep. Steve Cohen and state Rep. Justin Pearson will join civil rights advocates including Martin Luther King III and Arndrea Waters King for a press conference calling for reforms to the United States Supreme Court to combat corruption and partisan rulings and safeguard democracy and voting rights.

The press conference will be the latest stop on the ‘Just Majority’ campaign’s national bus tour, which began in Boston in April and most recently traveled through California and Texas. The Supreme Court accountability campaign, whose slogan is ‘Democracy Demands A Fair And Ethical Court,’ calls for reforms including Supreme Court expansion. It is sponsored by a set of leading national racial justice, reproductive rights, gun violence prevention, and judicial reform organizations.

The tour comes amid rising concern about ethics scandals and partisan rulings at the Supreme Court, including rulings striking down protections for voting rights and democracy. The Court is currently considering cases with major implications for voting rights, including a case about racial gerrymandering.

After remarks from the speakers, reporters will be invited to ask questions.
