Kyle Hooten with The Daily Caller is one of the many journalists that are covering the wild riots in Minneapolis, Minnesota firsthand. Hooten talked with Todd Starnes on his nationally-syndicated radio show about the escalating situation in the city.

With some protesters flashing guns in front of the cameras, the journalist doesn’t have a security team and is having to take precautions for himself. Hooten has even gone so far as to make sure he is dressing down to “not look like the media” in a hoodie, jeans and other casual attire. Even though the National Guard came on the scene last night, their presence wasn’t felt very strongly.

“We did see the National Guard make an appearance last night, but it didn’t appear as if they were taking a very active role at all,” Hooten said.

Some of those most hurt by the situation are the small business owners, many of whom said they feel that looting isn’t helpful.

“They said that they felt betrayed by the community,” Hooten said, “and these were people of color that stood against police brutality.”

It seems that the increased law enforcement presence and daylight have helped to slow down the riots, thankfully.

“It seems like the morning kind of tapered the crescendo of the violence a little bit,” the journalist said.

However, as the two nights of violent rallies have passed, it looks like a weekend of more could be ahead. According to Hooten’s sources, these riots could be expanding from just locals, but nothing has been confirmed just yet.

“Hundreds of more protestors that are arriving to the city via the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport,” he said, “so if that report that I’m hearing is accurate, we could see more bodies in the street, which could lead to more violence tonight.”
