The running community will honor the memory of 34-year-old Liza Fletcher by finishing her routine run that ended tragically.
Organizers say they created the run to cope with the fear they felt after the Memphis runner was snatched during her early morning run near the University of Memphis last Friday.“Our goal is to stand up for the women in the Mid South and emphasize that women should be able to safely run any time of day,” race organizer Danielle Heineman wrote on social media.
The race is set to begin at 4:20 a.m. near Central and Belvedere and run down Central to Zach Curlin St and back toward Belvedere.
Below are the guidelines:
Wear Bright Colors and a bright light if you have it
Do not come alone
Repect the neighborhoods we run through as people will be sleeping
No Strollers
No Dogs
No Bikes
Walkers are welcome but must finish your distance by 7am
While media may be present, we kindly request that participants do not speak to the media out of respect for the family.
A few shuttles will be available to bus you back to UofM if you prefer to start there and run 4 miles to the finish
According to the Facebook page, more than 1,200 runners have committed to finishing Liza’s run.
