“If they refuse to wear one, they will be placed in an alternate setting and you will be contacted to come and pick them up,” the correspondence read. “The Shelby County Health Department will also be notified.”

Television station WMC also reported that the “district planned to take the names of students who refused to mask and turn them in to the health department.”

Parents who spoke to KWAM NewsTalk 107.9 FM were outraged over the district’s policy.

Very disturbing,” one parent told the radio station. “My first question is, what will they do with those names? And my child is a minor. Why does she need to be on a list going to the health department? What is that going to mean? What are they going to do with it? And what are they going to do with that? Are they going to call me? Are they going to do something with her?”

It does make you wonder what the point of all of this is.

“In my personal opinion, the point of it is it’s control,” another parent said. “It’s power, it’s fear. Fear. It’s a lot of fear. And to, you know, instill that in our children at young ages, it’s very disturbing.”
