Two more high-profile Memphis leaders want to sit in the city’s highest office.

Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner and Memphis-Shelby County Schools Board of Education Chair Michelle McKissack are considering a run for Memphis mayor.

“I’m seriously considering it. I will make an announcement in October,” Bonner told The Commercial Appeal Monday.

The Democrat was re-elected to a second term as the county’s sheriff in August.

McKissack announced Monday she’s formed a committee to study an election bid.

“Mothers all over Memphis have said that enough is enough. We’ve lost too much sleep and have shed too many tears in recent weeks. I’m ready for us to have the conversation that this city has avoided having for two hundred years. Maybe, just maybe, it’s time for a woman – a mother – to take the reins,” the chairwoman said.
