Tennessee State Senator Jack Johnson (R) joined “Wake Up Memphis” with Ben Deeter to defend the Tennessee GOP’s bills protecting children from public drag show performances and transgender body mutilation surgeries.

Critics have said this is an attack on parental rights, but Johnson, the author of the bills, pointed out how these bills actually protect minors.

Citizens are considered an adult at the age of 18, but if you’re younger than that, you shouldn’t be able to “have a body part removed,” Johnson told KWAM.

“We need to treat the mental health of these kids,” he said.

State Representative Gloria Johnson (D) blasted the bills, saying the “MAGA GOP just did away with democracy in TN, no big deal.”

However, Sen. Johnson isn’t backing down from the opposition.

“The two bills we’ve discussed this morning, I think protect Tennessee values, because they protect kids,” he pointed out, “and that’s a battle I’m willing to fight.”
