The “Truth in Sentencing” bill has been one of hot button issues in the ongoing race between  Amy Weirich and challenger Steve Mulroy. The bill eliminated the possibility of parole for criminals who have been convicted of several felonies and will guarantee they will be behind bars for the entirety of their sentence.

Sexton made a surprising prediction of what a Mulroy administration could compare to in not much time if he were to win.

“It’s an eight year term,” he said. “If you pick the wrong DA, I have a feeling with the guy running against Amy, you’ll have a city in short order that looks like San Francisco or those areas over there where they’re trying to impeach their DA’s for being soft on crime and not prosecuting people.”

He then stressed to listeners of the show of just how pivotal this election between the two will be for the future children of Memphis.

“If you live in Millington, Arlington, Germantown, Bartlett, Cordova, Collierville and City of Memphis, if you want to have your kids be able to walk the streets safely, there’s only one choice this election. That would be Amy Weirich,” he said.
