Tennessee Might Arm Teachers with Guns in Classrooms

With Tennessee legislators kicking off the General Assembly this week, they’re facing a slew of bills that cover a variety of topics, including gun legislation.

One of the major questions local politicians are facing is whether or not teachers or select employees should be permitted to carry a firearm on school property.

Legislation was filed by Rep. Jay Reedy (R-TN) that would amend sections of the Tennessee code that would allow them to carry.

Nashville news anchor Pamela Furr filled in for Ben Deeter on Wake Up Memphis Thursday morning and discussed the implications of such a law.

“For me, the resounding answer would be yes,” Furr said.

There were 51 reported school shootings in 2022.

“Teachers and children are left helpless,” she continued.
