Tennessee Politicians Review Bill to Ban Drag Shows in Front of Children

Tennessee lawmakers could ban drag shows from being performed in front of children if a bill that was presented Tuesday goes into law.

Tennessee’s Republican Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson presented the bill that would make it a first offense for doing a drag show in public.

The bill classifies these types of performances as go-go dancers and strippers. A second offense would result in up to six years in prison and $3,000 in fines.

This bill comes up after controversial drag shows are being held in front of family audiences, including the Pink Palace in Memphis. That venue’s planned show was canceled after receiving backlash in the community.
