TN Speaker Sexton (R) on Law & Order Bill: “We Sent a Very Clear Message.”

Republican Speaker of the Tennessee House Cameron Sexton tells ‘Wake Up Memphis’ with guest host Todd Starnes that much of the violence in America is in cities run by liberal leaders “who are afraid to push back.”
- Mike Pence’s speech at the Republican National Convention talked about how to make sure America stays American. One of the ways Tennessee is combatting the violence of the riots is with their new law and order bill, which increases penalties for violent protests.
“[If you riot] it’s no longer a slap on the wrist, you go to jail,” Sexton tells ‘Wake Up Memphis.’ “And guess what happened the next day when we passed that bill? The people left and went home.”
- He also spoke about how the media is blaming President Trump for everything going on in the world.
“They’re blaming the president for unemployment due to the pandemic,” Sexton tells Starnes, “but then they’re wanting to shut down the economy, which would destroy the economy and destroy America.”
- Speaker Sexton visited Christian Brothers University in Memphis about their improvements and safety precautions during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We were in town to support representative Mark White,” Sexton adds. “He’s a fabulous guy, has a great heart.”
- The Tennessee Department of Education was planning to send someone for ‘wellness’ checks at people’s homes. The goal was to check on the wellbeing of children in the home, and this included everything from job security to food security. The department’s plan to fly under the radar didn’t last long.
“We weren’t [made] aware by the department of education,” Sexton says of the order, which was later canceled after a major uproar by the people.
