Word spread during a crime summit that featured a number of the police department’s top command officers. Police Chief C.J. Davis and many other officers rushed out of First Baptist Broad — quickly followed by members of the media.

Councilman Chase Carlisle told KWAM that Chief Davis walked over and whispered in his ear that two of her officers were down. KWAM news anchor Ben Deeter was at that meeting and confirmed that officers had been shot in the line of duty.

Both officers were taken to Regional One Hospital. One officer is reportedly in critical condition. There’s no information on the second officer.

This is a developing story and we will update this report throughout the night.
