The shooting and crash happened on Elvis Presley Blvd across from Southland Mall and directly in front of the school’s gym. All four lanes of the roadway were blocked by first responders.

The Memphis Police Dept. tells KWAM that the incident happened at 2:41 p.m.

“Preliminary information indicates that multiple shots were fired at a white vehicle,” the police department said in a statement. “The adult driver was grazed and crashed into a brick wall just south of the intersection.”

The driver and the juvenile passenger were both transported to local hospitals and are listed as non-critical. The suspect(s) fled the scene in a green vehicle.

School officials stressed to KWAM that the incident happened off campus.

“We are working with local law enforcement as they investigate an incident off campus,” the district said in a statement. “We hope to have continued conversations about how off campus crime impacts our students’ well-being.”
