There is a coin shortage that is spreading across the United States, and it’s reached Memphis.

Along with the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, protests and riots, this is another problem the country is going to have to tackle.

With lockdowns being enforced, stores are not operating normally and are short on coins.

Customers are being asked to pay using credit cards or use exact change as some stores don’t have the coins to give you back.

Some stores are posting signs alerting you to the problem.

Coins have been added to the list of things that have been in high demand this year because of the coronavirus including: toilet paper, meat and hand sanitizer.

While some folks collect coins in a jar for a rainy day, that “rainy day” might be now, with the necessity of keeping change in your pocket.
