In an exclusive interview with ‘Wake Up Memphis’ with Robyn Walensky, Tennessee Governor Republican Bill Lee says he wants Tennesseans to “mask up” so coronavirus infections go down and we can then get back to in-person learning in schools across our state.

“If wearing a mask helps, then why not do it?” Lee tells ‘Wake Up Memphis.’ “I want to open schools, I want kids to have in-person learning in school, I want to play football, I want people to keep their businesses open.”

With more than  123,000 cases of coronavirus in Tennessee and 1,200 deaths, Governor Lee says he’s paying extremely close attention to the data when approaching how to handle the pandemic on a state level. He has focused on keeping our elderly population in Tennessee safe, with an eye on keeping nursing home residents and staff members safe from the virus by doing a huge amount of testing.

When asked about the non-stop debate about wearing masks in public, and mask shaming, Lee tells Walensky

“The Left has bated conservatives into arguing about masks,” Lee says. “Why not wear them if they help stop the spread, it’s a small price to pay.”
