BULLETIN: Gunman Opens Fire on Memphis TV Station

UPDATE: A gunman who fired shots at a television station in Memphis Tuesday is in custody, according to law enforcement.

The shooter went into the Fox13 television studies and asked to speak to someone before shooting a round outside the front door of the lobby, according to witnesses.

The gunman is holed up at a local restaurant, Ubee’s, on Highland and Midland, near the University of Memphis, which was on lockdown.

Dozens of Memphis Police Department (MPD) cars and SWAT are at the scene with the street blocked off.

Officers rushed into the restaurant and were able to get everyone out safely with the suspect locked in a bathroom, according to an Ubee’s employee.

The University of Memphis is on lockdown Tuesday due to an active shooter on South Highland Street, where there is a heavy police presence.

The shooter fired at Fox13 station around 11:30 and no one was injured before reportedly being held up in Ubee’s, next to Belltower Coffee and Wine Bar off the U of M campus.

“Officers are on the scene of a potential armed party at Ubee’s located at 521 South Highland,” the Memphis Police Department tweeted. “We ask that everyone stay out of the area until the situation has been resolved.”

The University of Memphis sent out the following alert:

“There is a shooter situation on Highland/Mynders. Suspect contained in a local business. Avoid Highland Avenue and shelter indoors.”

SWAT is attempting to apprehend the suspect, according to the outlet.
