It was announced Wednesday morning that Tennessee football legend Johnny Majors passed away at 85 years old. A College Football Hall of Fame inductee, Majors was an iconic running back for the University of Tennessee, and he coached them from 1997 to 1992. As a player, he helped to lead the team to an SEC championship and rushed for 549 yards total.
Gov. Bill Lee of Tennessee remarked on Majors’ passing:
Johnny Majors is a Tennessee icon and @Vol_Football legend who will be missed. Our prayers are with his wife Mary Lynn and the Majors family.

Before his coaching history at Tennessee, Majors coached Iowa State’s football team, and then he later led the University of Pittsburgh to a 1997 National Championship. He boasted an overall coaching record of 185-137-10.
Majors is survived by his wife Mary Lynn and two children. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Majors family.
