Memphis Submerged! Fire Dept. Making Water Rescues

Water rescues are under way across the Mid-South after a night of heavy rainfall. The Memphis Fire Dept. has been conducting numerous water rescues throughout the city. Watch below:

At least six people had to rescued after four vehicles were trapped in flood waters at Pleasant Ridge Road near Kings Station Road, according to city officials in Millington. There was also flooding reported in Desoto County.

Memphis Police say the emergency communications bureau has taken hundreds of calls regarding flooding on the streets, interstate and even inside homes.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Dept. of Transportation have shut down Interstate 55 westbound at McLemore due to stalled cars and motorists trapped in their vehicles.

Communications has logged calls where motorists had to leave their cars on the city streets, MPD reported.

The following areas have sustained significant flooding:

Jackson/Macon, Walnut Grove/Poplar, Central/Lombardy, E Parkway/ Union, Summer/ Highland, Central/ Hollywood, Gordon/Macon, Waring/Charleswood, Goodlett/Poplar, Goodlett/Walnut Grove, Perkins/Walnut Grove, Getwell / Elliston, Elliston / Mallory, 1736 Prescott, 3891 Barron Ave, Lamar Ave / Old Getwell, Front of 1273 Winchester, East Bound; E. Brooks and Fontaine, E. Brooks, Windbrook, West Raines and Third, Millbranch and Winchester.

Officers are assisting with the flow of traffic in the following areas: Jackson/Macon, Walnut Grove/Poplar, Central/Lombardy, E Parkway/ Union. Watch more video below:
