How To Avoid Cold Weather Scams: BBB

With a drop in temperatures means a rise in winter weather scams.

Daniel Irwin, Better Business Bureau of the Mid South’s communications director, told “Wake Up Memphis” Wednesday the chilly temperatures will bring snow, ice and scams.

Irwin said to be on the look out for two weather related scams: fly-by-nigh contractors and major discounts on furnace services.

“Remember, reputable contractors after a storm are going to be really, really, really slammed with business, so be very wary of anyone that knocks on your door wanting to help you,” he told KWAM.

Irwin added: “Remember, weekend stuff with contractors… the price goes up not down, so if someone stops by your door and wants to give you a good deal, just take that with a grain of salt.”
