Dozens of churchgoers surrendered their guns Saturday in an effort to reduce crime across Memphis.

Evergreen Presbyterian Church hosted the event, where church leaders chopped up and sawed their parishioners guns.

The destroyed guns are turned into garden tools like rakes, shovels and hoes.

“I am over there with the chop saw, chopping up pieces of guns,” one church member told Action News 5. “We wanted to do something even if it may seem like a small thing, to be able to make a difference in the safety and peace of our community.”

The event was part of the nationwide Guns to Garden movement, which dismantle firearms to reduce ‘gun violence’ in cities across the country.
