Buddy Smith, owner and head instructor of 901 Firearms Training, joined KWAM’s “Wake Up Memphis” to discuss their upcoming women’s self-defense class.

“Women are many times easier victims than men,” Smith pointed out.

The women’s self-defense workshop will take place on Saturday, July 22 at 901 Firearms Training. Register for the course here.

As a retired US Army Veteran and retired Shelby County Deputy Sheriff, Smith has seen the rapid rise in carjackings in the Memphis area.

“This has been on the rise for the past several years,” he told KWAM.

So far over 8,000 vehicles have been carjacked in Memphis, and he offered advice for those caught in “bump and rob” situations.

“Find a parking area that is busy and has people around,” Smith said.
