Carpenter Slams ‘Flawed and Immoral’ Reparations Vote

Spending $5 million in taxpayer funds to study and create reparations for black citizens in Shelby County is “flawed and immoral,” said conservative commentator and KWAM contributor Jordan Carpenter.

Carpenter was at the meeting Wednesday when Shelby County Commissioners voted 8-3-2 to approve the reparations committee.

“We learned a lot about the commissioners last night,” Carpenter told  “Wake Up Memphis” with guest host Steve Gill Thursday, “and not all of it is good.”

Shelby County Commissioner Britney Thornton, a progressive Democrat, said she was triggered by a white Republican commissioner’s whiteness.

“I own the fact that today your whiteness triggered me because it is actually an identity that I recognize postures you differently from me. It comes from privileges that I simply do not have,” the black commissioner said during the contentious meeting.

“We’ve got to stop with the oppression Olympics,” Carpenter said.
