Memphis City Councilwoman Pearl Walker vowed to funnel more tax dollars into community centers to address crimes committed by juveniles.

Walker, recently sworn into office, represents Whitehaven – an area with the highest crime rate across the city.

The progressive Councilwoman pleaded with Memphians to work with elected officials in what she deemed “a collaborative approach” to crime.

“We have to take a community approach to this. We need more involvement from the community. We are not asking people to go out and track down criminals,” Walker told WMC-TV.

Walker told the local TV station that she’s committed to funding more activities for troubled youth.

“We need to invest more in our young people and give them opportunities,” she added.
