Memphis mayoral candidate James Harvey defended his conservative credentials during an interview on “Wake Up Memphis” Monday.
The former Shelby County commissioner told KWAM he is the true “bona fide Republican” in the mayoral race, accusing Shelby County Chairman Cary Vaughn of lying.
“I love Cary. I think he’s a great guy and I think he’ll get to heaven before I do but he’s a liar,” Harvey told KWAM host Ben Deeter. “I am the bona fide Republican in the race.”Vaughn told KWAM the party is backing Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner, who is a Democrat, because there were no “bono fide” Republicans in the crowded field of mayoral candidates.
“I don’t think there are any bona fide Republicans that are runnning,” Vaughn said a few weeks ago. “I think what we are trying to do is recommend the best for that position and for Memphis.”
