During a Memphis mayoral debate, Memphis mayoral candidate Van Turner implied the constant MLGW power outages in the Mid-South are only affecting poor black neighborhoods.
“It seems like our most disadvantaged and challenged communities are the ones who suffer the most,” Turner said.
“We have to rearrange our priorities in the city, because when we neglect those who are in these challenged communities and we do it year after year after year, that community lashes out,” he added.Turner, a former county commissioner and head of the local NAACP, is campaigning as the “Democrat mayor for Memphis’s future.”
Only five of the 17 mayoral candidates showed up to the debate hosted by The Daily Memphian.
Van Turner IMPLIES that there are only power outages in poor black neighborhoods — and there are only potholes in poor black neighborhoods.
