The bill in Tennesee that aimed to end constitutional carry in Nashville and Memphis stalled out at the statehouse Monday.

State Senator London Lamar (D – Memphis) introduced the bill that would require adults to obtain a permit to carry a handgun in the Volunteer State.

Lamar told lawmakers the bill is not about chipping away at gun owners rights, it’s about making Tennessee cities safer.

“I know it’s unrealistic for me to say we’re gonna redo permitless carry in the whole state. I get it,” Lamar said. “But at least give me the tools to protect our urban cities.”

“Bodies are dropping everywhere… enough is enough,” Lamar told the committee.
