Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich (R) passed the torch to progressive DA-elect Steve Mulroy Wednesday.
Weirich gave some parting advice to her successor on Wake Up Memphis this morning.
“When I met with him, one of the pieces of advice I gave to him… that he first of all, get to know everyone in the office. I mean, he really comes in with no experience with how the office functions, the work that we do, the volume of cases that we handle,” Weirich told morning show host Tim Van Horn.Mulroy took the oath of office Wednesday after winning a heated race built on a radical platform of criminal justice reform like eliminating cash bail and the early release of criminals.
The outgoing DA said his focus must be on the victims of violent crime.
“Time will tell what his focus is and how he runs his office, but I hope he never, ever ever forgets the importance of the victims and what we owe to the victims and the rights that they have built into our constitution,” Weirich added.
