REPORT: More Than 6,000 Cars Stolen in Memphis in 2023 So Far

WMC Action News 5 reports that 6,133 vehicles have been stolen in the Memphis area.

We’re not even halfway through 2023.

The Memphis Police Department held a steering wheel giveaway this week to hopefully help protect citizens’ property.

If you were unable to get a steering wheel lock this time, the police department said there will be more giveaways in the future.

Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis advised locals to park their cars near other vehicles and use the steering wheel lock.

“Definitely use it and always park your vehicle in an area where it’s sort of close to other vehicles,” she told WMC. “We ask people to be cognizant of where they park their vehicles and always make sure it’s locked.”
