Memphis is home to many parks, including the renowned Shelby Farms Park, which features over 10 miles of walking trails and over four thousand acres overall. With over 150 parks in the city, many would think Memphis would be one of the best destinations for runners.

ARRIS Composites’ newest study shows that Memphis, Tennessee, ranks as the least runner-friendly city in the country.

It isn’t for a lack of parks that Memphis ranks so poorly. Rather, the study states that “Memphis’ high pedestrian fatality rate and low percentage of residents living close to a park contributed to the city earning the title for worst running city in the U.S.”

Looking at the other end of the rankings, San Francisco ranked as the best city for runners in the country because of its “good air quality, access to parks, and low pedestrian fatality rate.”
