Progressive activist Tami Sawyer said poverty is causing mobs of teenagers to loot gas station across Memphis.
“This is what I thought of when I saw the young adults looting a gas station last night,” Sawyer wrote on social media. “It’s not okay what they did, but if you notice what they grabbed, it was food. Because we fail to meet basic needs of our youth, we end up with the crime we’re seeing.”

KWAM Radio Host Todd Starnes blasted the notion that food desserts are responsible for an uptick in juvenile crime.
“Is that why they’re shutting down the interstates to street race? Is that why they robbed the Fed-Ex truck driver? Is that why downtown is a war zone?” Starnes responded.
