The University of Memphis threatened to cancel tonight’s address by Kyle Rittenhouse unless Turning Point USA agreed to a series of last-minute demands.

Student leaders were summoned to a meeting late Tuesday night with the university’s chief counsel as well the vice president for student affairs. The details of the meeting were listed in an email from the vice president to a TPUSA leader.

KWAM has learned that minority students were enraged and falsely accused TPUSA of banning them from acquiring tickets to the Rittenhouse speech. However, the truth is that some 22,000 people signed up for tickets at the urging of far-left activists. Their intent was to scoop up all the tickets so that no one was in attendance at the event.

The TPUSA chapter, which had gone through all of the proper channels to schedule the event, received very little help from university officials in dealing with the activists (both on and off campus). Students have also been subjected to threats.

So, less than 24 hours before the Rittenhouse speech, the university decided to void all the tickets and force attendees to sign up through their own “vetting” system.

Conservatives were less than shocked to discover that less than one hour after the system was activated, all the tickets were “sold-out.”

The university accused TPUSA of “considerable mismanagement of issued tickets that prohibits our ability to provide the appropriate safety and security for the event.”

TheY listed a series of actions that the club must take or else.

“Failure to adhere to the above deadlines may result in the cancellation of the event,” the university threatened.

Conservatives accused the University of Memphis of all but ensuring the event will be a failure. Others said the strong-armed tactics were not applied to other groups on campus.

TPUSA also told KWAM that they are being forced to pay outrageous fees for security and parking that other student clubs are not required to pay.

Following is the email that was sent to the TPUSA student leadership:

Thank you for your time this evening. As Melanie Murry, Chief University Counsel, and I stated on the phone; because of the significant concerns we have about the ticketing and ticketing vetting system, the event may proceed only by re-ticketing the event through the University’s ticketing system. Our concerns include the considerable mismanagement of issued tickets that prohibits our ability to provide the appropriate safety and security for the event.

We can reserve 50 tickets for Turning Point USA-Memphis and your guests. We will need a list of the names and email addresses of the 50 reserved seats before 9:00 AM the date of the event (3/20/2024)

The remainder of the tickets will be issued on a first come first served basis and one per person as originally advertised.

Going forward with the event includes the following:

You (Turning Point) will send a notification to all individuals who had a confirmed ticket at any point during the ticketing process to notify them that their ticket is no longer valid and they may be re-ticketed by visiting memphis.edu/tigertix You must send the University proof of said notification at least 30 minutes before the link to reissues tickets going live (8:30 AM for a 9:00 AM go live time). A list (name and email) of anyone issued a ticket at any time must be provided to the University.

You (Turning Point) must advertise the re-ticketing of the event on the same venues originally advertised.

Failure to adhere to the above deadlines may result in the cancellation of the event.
